Notes on moving well

Walking together: why group walks are good for you

Walking is one of the simplest ways to look after your body, and it is easier with company.

Why it helps

Walking is gentle on the joints, good for the heart, and helps many people sleep and feel better in themselves. Walking with others makes it easier to keep going, and the time passes more quickly.

How to start

Begin with 10 to 15 minutes. Add a few minutes each week. Wear shoes that fit and support your feet. Carry water. Walk at a pace where you can still talk.

Our walks

Every so often we organise a walk for the people who come to us and anyone else who wants to join. We share the date, the route and the distance when each one is planned. Message us to be told about the next one.

When to check first

If you have heart problems, chest pain, dizziness, a recent injury or you have not exercised for a long time, speak to your doctor or to us before starting.
